An Unbelieavable ending
4.0 Women's doubles
This Match was played on 10/9/2009 Friday at Four Seasons 6.30 pm.
Court 2
Partner: Val M.
We were playing at 4.0 level so I knew we would have to keep the energy level up at all times.Sometimes this expectation of consistency can bring you down although these are matches that one really enjoys playing.
I was surprised and happy when we won the first set 6-3. I did not want that 1st set win to lull me in nonchalance and I was not surprised when the opponents started picking up their game and we ended up losing the 2nd set 6-4. There I said to myself atleast now we know what we are dealing with. The losing streak didn't stop there and we ended up looking almost out of the game at 1-7 in the third set tiebreak. The third set in women's doubles is a super tiebreak of 10 points instead of a full set.
Usually down at 1-7 or for that matter a difference of more than 3 points in a tied break spells doom but I don't know what got into us or what sailed us through or what got into the opponent, we saw ourselves crawl back into the game and we didn't just level at 7-all we won it from there :) 10-7 Phew! Val and I hugged for 2 whole minutes still not believing what we had pulled off.
Definitely a game to remember :)

A match to remember
Level and Partner: 7.5 Women's Combo with Marty
Location and Date: 6th of August,8.30 pm at Worldgate
Opponent: Make it a Double.
Marty and I have played once before but that was long time ago and since it was the first time we played together, the lack of knowledge of each other's strengths and weaknesses made us a "a not very strong team"
This time it was different. Having been in the same women's team for the last 8 months I was comfortable with her and I knew she was a chatter box :). Sometimes it better that your partner talks even if it is nonsense. Better than the alternative of a "cold" partner.
Marty tells me they are a strong team, one of them adds a lot of spin to her shots and the other has strong deep ground strokes.
Today I am very happy for some reason, I am not bogged down by other challenges in my life which kind of lets me just concentrate on the match at hand and I am raring to go.
---One thing about the getting bogged down part, sometimes these negatives thoughts creep in at the most crucial points in the match and render me helpless and I have kicked myself for having swayed by such negativity in the aftermath of the match.---
The opponents seem to be a little tentative and we break them right in the first game. Now it is our serve,my partner and I agree that she should serve since experience has taught us she is the better server.(Usually when your partner's serve is better than yours, you are not under pressure during your serve which works in your favor). We hold our serve, break again but my serve is broken.(We are at 3-1 now). Anyways I am not very disheartened. My net game is working yay!. We take the set at the first set point and set is ours at 6-2.
The second set is very competitive, it looks like the opponents are now in their rhythm and that goes on until 3-3. Just a few floppy points from us and the opponents win the 2nd set 6-3 :(
The third set is not a full set, it is usually a 10 point tiebreak. Tiebreaks are tricky but today I as I said earlier I am ready for anything.
My partner and I(on her suggestion) and some deliberation switch our receiving sides just to give the opponents a different look and something to think about.
It seems to work and we are neck to neck. After some high tension points when trailing behind 6-8, we make it to 9-8 and we have a matchpoint! My only regret of the day, I lose a baseline rally at this point damn! Lose the point and then lose the match to a score 9-11 :( in th tiebreak.
On retrospect our other courts all lost in straight sets, atleast we had a good battle and a good match and I had found a good partner in Marty.

May 30th Match at Skyline
Time and Location: 5.00 p.m., Skyline sport and health club
Position: Singles #1
- Reached skyline like 2 mins before the match, was cursing myself all the way for starting so late...as usual :(
- But got of to a really good start and won the first set 6-0, at times like these I imagine myself to to be like Roger Federer...I know you laugh but still
- Not just that, I went up 5-0 in the second set --was just 5 points away from a 6-0 6-0 victory, started thinking about how if I win 6-0, 6-0-- my chances of being bumped up to 3.5 would increase etc. Thats when I double faulted, handed over a game to my opponent and started playing like a 2.5 player as opposed to a good solid 3.0 player...I lost 3 games in row! went down 5-3
- anyways I asked my nervous mind to stay calm -- just put the ball back in court--...finally.... I finished the match 6-0,6-3.....phew yay yay!
ps: later I learnt my opponent was 51 years of age--- wow-- at that age I would be just happy if I can run around, leaving alone playing singles!
